Over the last 12months we have been working closely with Transport for NSW and Right Angle Studios on the place activation and strategy for the Eddy precinct at Central Station. Watch this space for our latest project updates!

To launch the precinct, Right Angle hosted the Place Debate, on site at Eddy with Rob Stokes, NSW Tranport Minister opening the event.
Qianyi Lim on behalf of Sibling was invited along with five other city makers to debate the topic ‘ A great city should never sleep!’
Appointed to the negative side of the debate with Sacha Coles, Director of Aspect Studios and Sam Davison, Creative Director at Right Angle; we argued that quite simply, cities, like all living organisms, need to take rest and be restored in order to function. Whilst it is valuable for our cities to offer a myriad of spaces for entertainment, for leisure, for work, for learning– there is a danger that our cities become places focused around constant consumption and production. Places where commercial values take priority over social, community and emotional wellbeing. It is crucial that our cities are balanced with spaces for turning off; for rest and respite; spaces where we can retreat and do nothing.
As cities across the globe move towards 24hour connectivity, we need to make sure that the city, with its own circadian rhythms, offers a diversity of spaces, that are inclusive, safe and accessible for all of us, to turn off for a bit and retreat throughout the day.

Arguing for a great city that never sleeps was Jess Miller, Michaella Sola March and Barrie Barton, who emphasised the importance of night time economies in supporting essential workers with services as well as harnessing the cultural capital that a 24hr city can bring.
The winners of the debate were decided by crowd cheering and needless to say, we won! However both sides could agree that  a great city needs to accommodate and provide space for a diversity of communities, uses and programming across a 24hour day, whether that be for work, rest or play.

We currently have two employment opportunities available in our Melbourne studio for a registered architect and studio manager roles.

Details of the two roles as follows:

Registered Architect or Experienced Graduate :

This is a full time position where the applicant has had a minimum of five years post graduate experience. The ideal applicant will have had experience in public architecture, they will be an all rounder with a diverse skill set demonstrating the following:

– Confidence in design
– Clear communication, both verbal and written
– Proficiency in technical documentation including coordination of architectural design sets
– Experience in running projects including dealing with consultants, clients and managing timelines
– Graphic skills for presentations
– Proficiency in Revit, Rhino and Adobe Suite are a plus

Studio Manager:

The studio manager position is a 2-3 day/week role, where you will be responsible for the operations and administration of our busy and dynamic practice. Key responsibilities include:

– Coordinate the smooth running of the studio. Be accountable for all office operations including, reception duties, answering phones, greeting clients
– Work with our IT consultant to manage IT/technical issues
– Work with our accountant to reconcile expenses and payment requests, communicate invoices for payment
– Manage QA and Oh&S systems
– Manage HR procedures
– Organise events and studio activities
– Coordinate travel schedules as required

The ideal applicant will be a pro-active, highly organised and resourceful person and have had experience working in similar roles within architecture or related industries. Architects looking for a change in the conventional role are welcome to apply.

Congratulations to Nicholas Braun who has now registered as a landscape architect on the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA!)Adding to his expertise as a registered Architect, Nicholas’ passion for nature and landscape feeds into all of Sibling’s projects. Whether they be urban or suburban, private or public, landscape and urban design is always considered integral to our architectural project outcomes.

Some recent projects in which Nicholas has integrated landscape and urban design thinking are Rodda Lane, Bega Valley Regional Gallery and the Hello Houses.

Earlier this year Amelia Borg graduated with an MBA at the University of Melbourne Business School! Needless to say we are super proud of her and in awe of how she stayed focused on both study and practice throughout the pandemic Amelia’s skills have helped us deliver the best in our projects through understanding the complex needs of the clients that we work with, establishing a supportive and balanced studio culture for our team, whilst building upon the socially engaged agendas of our practice. Running an architectural practice has been and continues to be a challenging endeavour, we are continually learning and Amelia’s skills have only reinforced this venture we call Sibling Many thanks to the Steve Ashton Bequest who supported her studies with the Steve Ashton Scholarship for the Architectural Profession.
