Ida Bar
Overview
Ida Bar is a new social gathering space and the only licensed bar on the University of Melbourne’s Parkville Campus. It is also home to the University of Melbourne Student Union’s (UMSU) extensive record collection, proudly displayed within the space, it is testament to the bar’s long history at the campus. Located within the 1970s Doug Mcconnell building carefully renovated by NMBW, the material approach introduces lively pockets of colour whilst celebrating the original brutalist structure of the building. A space for students, staff and visitors alike, this new social space serves as a relaxing lounge, casual workspace or meeting place for the various university committees, clubs and organisations. A full commercial kitchen supports lunch and dinner service over the semester and a mobile DJ booth transforms the space for events.
