Coburg Library Strategic Vision & Brief

What is the role of the library in the twenty-first century? Sibling was invited to explore this question as part of developing the Coburg Library strategic vision and design brief with urban design consultant Hodyl for the City of Merri-bek. The research involved benchmarking leading community and library facilities across Australasia through spatial analysis, evaluation of building principles, costs, and interviews with architects, project managers and librarians. These insights informed the design principles, program, area schedules, and budget, which were presented in workshops with the project team to guide thinking for the new library. This work culminated in a design brief outlining the spatial, programmatic and functional requirements of each space, the guiding design principles, spatial relationships, renders, and key precedents to inspire the future designer of the Coburg Library and Piazza.
