Overview

Pittsway Arcade is the refurbishment of an Asian food court in the heart of Sydney's CBD. The 30-year-old food court is a hidden local favourite, but its surreptitious basement location is unbeknownst to the uninitiated visitor. Our approach was to honour the charm of this historic spot, whilst elevating the tired and rundown conditions of the space through a refreshed and cohesive identity.
The project's striking material palette takes its cues from the auspicious meaning of red and gold in many Asian cultures. At the entrance, a trail of red tiled columns and strategically arranged signage and lighting welcomes passers-by from Pitt Street and hints at the hidden food court below. Linking the ground floor to the basement is a central eye-catching red perforated metal stairwell with integrated lighting.
