We are pleased to share that the Wangaratta District Specialist School has received an Honourable Mention at the International Union of Architects (UIA) Friendly and Inclusive Spaces.  Recognising outstanding projects across four categories — New Buildings, Existing and Historic Buildings, Public and Open Spaces, and Research — the awards celebrate architectural design that is accessible, empathetic, and inclusive for all.Awards in the New Buildings category.

Other Australian projects recognised include the Akeyulerre Healing Centre by Sue Dugdale and Associates and A Calm Space to Reset by Chris Porter and Cathryn Grant with Deakin University in the Research category.  The UIA is a federation of national professional organisations working to unify architects, influence public policies and advance architecture.

Now in its tenth year, Melbourne Design Week celebrates the breadth and depth of Australian design through a diverse program of exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops and events.

The Sibling team were involved in various events over the week; Michael Strack led a project tour through the Music Market at Collingwood Yards,  Qianyi Lim was on a panel discussing off the plan design, and Timothy Moore led conversations with local celebrated designers and architects.

We are pleased to share Rushworth P-12 College Technology Centre has been shortlisted at the Victorian Australian Institute of Architects Awards in the Educational category and Regional Prize.

Ngurang – meaning nest, or meeting place in Wiradjuri language – is the name of a new performing arts rehearsal residency on Wiradjuri land near Bathurst, NSW. The residency will bring together performing artists from around the country and abroad to create new works within the natural setting of the Chifley Damn grasslands. Last year Bathurst Regional Council were successful in their bid for grant funding to deliver the project, and so we’re excited to see this one get off the ground in the coming months!

Design Intelligence: What Designing Schools Teaches Architects, was an event hosted by the Victorian AIA in March. Speaking alongside ARM and Kosloff Architects, Sibling directors Amelia and Nick presented our approach and learnings on education projects and how these have shaped other project typologies.

We are thrilled to have SECCA nominated for Building of the Year under the Cultural Building category at this year’s Archdaily awards! It is rewarding to have this project recognised on such a significant global platform. Congratulations to all of the other nominees.

Starting the month with some fresh and exciting news within our team. We’re pleased to share that Alice Edmonds is stepping into the role of Senior Associate, and Michael Strack has been promoted to Associate. We’re also celebrating Tope Adesina who has recently become a registered architect with the ARBV. Congratulations to all three of you for the energy, talent and value you bring to Sibling everyday.

Since joining us in 2019, Alice has made a remarkable impact across so many of our projects, driving a design approach thats playful, fresh, and deeply connected to the communities it serves. She’s led several of our education projects from concept through to completion, collecting a few well -deserved awards along the way! Alice also bring a bright, infectious energy to the studio, setting the tone for the studio as a mentor and collaborator within our team.

Michael joined Sibling almost two years ago, coming from a larger practice, his depth of technical knowledge and experience with large-scale projects have strengthened our own expertise as our project scales continue to grow. Michael works tirelessly in collaboration with clients and project teams to successfully deliver projects across public and residential sectors. But its not all serious biz with Michael, his creative flair extends beyond buildings, often revealed in his inspired (and unexpectedly themed) Friday night drinks spreads.

It goes without saying Tope has been a treasure within our studio since he joined four years ago. His effortless design skills consistently inspire us, where his eye for composition and details is evident both in his project work and behind the camera, where he takes on the not-so-small task of capturing our annual portraits and many of our completed proejcts. A quiet achiever, we are excited to see how Tope continues to grow as an accomplished architect.
