Where the bush meets the sea
Aireys Inlet Primary School Art and Music Hub
Overview
The Aireys Inlet Primary School Art and Music Hub is located on the lands of the Wadawarrung peoples, nestled between native bushland and the southern ocean along the Great Ocean Road of Victoria's famed surf coast. This project is deeply inspired by its surroundings, with materials reflecting the colours on country both inside and out. The textured external blockwork, red fibre cement cladding, and green sun shading awning all resonate with the surrounding native landscape, but also work together to ensure the building meets stringent BAL FZ safety standards.
A rock landscape around the new building is designed for external learning but also serves as an interactive and inviting feature for both students and the broader community, contributing positively to the public domain. Internally, the flexible design of the learning spaces allows for various artistic activities, performance, school gatherings and workshops, allowing it to adapt to evolving school and educational needs.
