Overview

Sibling in collaboration with Aspect Studios and Bangawarra were one of four shortlisted competition design teams to develop a new precinct plan, community centre building and revitalised Griffith Park at the heart of Bankstown's commercial centre.

Our proposal is deeply inspired by and celebrates both the rich confluence of cultures and waters at Bankstown. Located at the source of the Salt Pan Creek catchment, the precinct plan reveals and embraces the original hydrological flows across the landscape through a series of rain gardens and integrated playscapes. The community centre takes advantage of its unique aspect across the existing tree canopy, connecting to the surrounding public realm and park through a series of threshold interventions. These have been inspired by the liveliness and energy of Chapel Rd, which aim to extend this vibrant community spirit into the precinct. A study of the various threshold interventions along this vibrant high street developed into a rich set of outcomes to be applied throughout the building and park planning.

Grounding the entire concept is a deep connection to Country, reflected in the design's inspiration drawn from natural systems and topography. This approach ensures that the built form resonates with the cultural and environmental context, establishing a strong sense of place.

Drawing inspiration from its location at the source of Salt Pan Creek, our design embraces the dynamic movement of water through the landscape.
